snowboarders

Snowboarders at Mount Cardrona, New Zealand

For nearly nine months I have selected and written about an existing image of mine on a weekly basis. For me it’s been fun reminiscing on both old and new images. I never knew until Monday morning (sometimes Tuesday depending on my Sundays!) what would inspire me in my selection and writing. I did though want to make it interesting and inspirational to the viewer.

silhouetted men posing

Xhosa men, Transkei, South Africa

Five fingers, five guys wearing hats, carrying sticks and looking cool. There’s but one thing to do, take a picture!

I was hitch hiking through the Republic of Transkei, a homeland area for the Xhosa speaking people within South Africa, when I came across these guys who wanted nothing more than to show off for the camera, though others may think differently.

snow blizzard

Blizzard in Jonesborough, Tennessee

This week’s picture of the week was a no brainier. Today I woke up at 6 a.m. and the air temperature was 29 degrees with a wind chill of 10 degrees (that’s Fahrenheit!). I know, I was outside watering the plants so they wouldn’t freeze. But as cold as it was here in South Florida we were still better off than most everywhere except Hawaii and Southern California. So I guess most of you looking at this picture can relate.

By the way, the picture was made in Jonesborough, Tennessee during a blizzard and it was a lot more fun taking that picture than water plants this morning!

Technical details:

  • Leica M6 w/ 35mm f/2.0 Summicron
  • Ektachrome LPZ transparency film

marathon runners

Palm Beach Marathon, lead runners

This past weekend the 7th annual Palm Beach Marathon was held. I did not run in it nor did I photographed it. However in years past I have taken photos of it including this one of the lead pack.

I used a Hasselblad X-Pan camera which, for those unfamiliar with it, is an older film camera made to shoot panoramic images. I loved that camera and I’m real sorry I sold it a while back when the photography world was turning digital.

Witches Rock and Santa Rosa National Park, Costa Rica

Witches Rock, Costa Rica

Witches Rock in the Santa Rosa National Park, Costa Rica. This is a seldom seen view of the famous surfing landmark. It was taken half way down the trail head that begins on the Pan American Highway. Most surfers travel by boat and thus are not afforded this scaled back view of the rock.

curvy road by snow covered mountains

Cardrona Valley Road, New Zealand

“Sign sign everywhere a sign breaking up the scenery blowing my mind”, written and sung by Five Man Electrical Band, could easily be applied to this image. While I don’t think this is quite what they had in mind, I can’t help but think of the song when looking at the picture.
