First a quick background on the images. I love swimming in the ocean with a camera when the weather is rough and/or ominous. In this case the camera was a Nikon Z6 fitted with the NikkorZ 14-30mm f/4 S lens. To keep the equipment dry it was placed inside an Outex underwater housing. There are many days of doing this that I come back with little to show, lighting can be flat or subject matters simply do not appear. This week’s picture of the week was a no brainier. Today I woke up at 6 a.m. and the air temperature was 29 degrees with a wind chill of 10 degrees (that’s Fahrenheit!). I know, I was outside watering the plants so they wouldn’t freeze. But as cold as it was here in South Florida we were still better off than most everywhere except Hawaii and Southern California. “Sign sign everywhere a sign breaking up the scenery blowing my mind”, written and sung by Five Man Electrical Band, could easily be applied to this image. While I don’t think this is quite what they had in mind, I can’t help but think of the song when looking at the picture.

Seeing how this week we have our first named tropical storm, Alex, I thought I would mark the occasion by posting an image shot during Hurricane Hugo. For those who may not remember the specifics, Hugo reached category 5 status in September of 1989 and struck various Caribbean islands and eventually made it’s way into South Carolina leaving in its wake a massive path of destruction.
