lip of a breaking wave

A lip about to unfold.

The lip of a wave at the very moment the off-shore winds begins to shape it, to give it texture, to add crescendo and a few extra seconds to its fleeting life and to give meaning to the unseen, undulating water molecules before all of it crashes, dissipates, is no more. It would be sad except another wave soon follows and the process of this final act begins all over.

That is a metaphorical description for what in essence is another wave soon to break. Really there is nothing magical or life giving about a breaking wave.

So then, why do we flock to the sea’s edge? Why are we mesmerized by the sounds of the ocean? Why do men, animals and other mammals find such joy in ridding the undulating molecules of the ocean? Why is there energy, life and such beauty in a simple wave? Because it’s not simple. It is complex while at the same time elemental. It can take away a life as easily as it can fulfill one. It can enrich or it can create fear. It’s another form of Nature that words can not fully describe.
