humorous sign

As you drive by this roadside novelty/tourist shop in the Florida Keys you can’t help but glance at the bright colors that jump out and scream, ‘stop tourist!’. Naturally, being a photographer I have every right to stop with out being labeled a ‘tourist’ . . . or so I tell myself.

Okay, I’ll admit this day I was a tourist and my brain told my foot to stomp on the breaks and my arms and hands to make a quick turn. Fortunately or unfortunately the store was closed and I was spared purchasing a trinket or an ornament or even a large pink flamingo statue that would end up in a yard sale.

However, there was something well worth the taking and I found it without it costing me a dime, my idiotic pride or even getting out of my truck. As I’m looking around kind of gawking at the rainbow of colors and endless number of stock piled items my son, Aidan, who normally hates for me to stop anywhere but a Wendy’s, Taco Bell or video game store asks me, ‘Dad, did you read that sign?’ I had no idea what sign he was referring to but when he pointed it out I couldn’t help but chuckle. So I pulled out my camera, rolled down the passenger side window and snapped this picture.

In the end I captured a humorous image without leaving the comfort of my truck and evaded being labeled a ‘tourist’ as not a tin fish or pink flamingo was brought home. Of course, if you want to call me a lazy photographer by all means, please do!
