Fifteen Surfboards by Fifteen Shapers - 15X15
15X15, a project paying homage to the craftsmanship of those that hand shape and fine-tune a block of foam into an instrument with seductive lines and intricate details. Fifteen surfboards were created by fifteen shapers stemming from Florida, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Puerto Rico, California, Hawaii and Australia. Each contributed their unique skill set making every surfboard different from the others and a one of a kind functional art piece. Pride and hand tools, and not a CNC--computer numerical control--shaping machine, comprised the backbone of each of these boards. My contribution were prints from my archives used to further embellish, if at all possible, and bring attention to the surfboards and their creators. In the end a collection of art was created both in the individuality of each piece and in the totality of group.
