Morning Commute.
This morning as I commuted to work from my bedroom to my office on the opposite side of the house, I fondly remembered this elderly couple in the Azores. Their commute to work was a bit different and made me glad to have remembered theirs.
Sure, neither one of us fight much traffic but that’s were the similarities end. While I pass the television, the coffee maker and end up in front of a computer this couple ascends a steep cliff surrounded by unspoiled beauty, sounds and smells. Their path ends in a small farm where the man toils the earth and the woman mills corn next to a mountain stream.
So many people’s daily life begins with a stressful commute, or in my case, an uninspiring one. Sure we all can’t or don’t want to live on a secluded and rugged island but looking at pictures like this can sure remind us that there are different paces to life. And there isn’t one better than the other . . . or is there?
Post Script: Any surfers out there you may want to glance over this couple’s shoulders. Those waves are something else they commute by everyday.

Technical details: (This image was made a long time ago using a film camera that did not record metadata. I can only tell you that I worked with Nikon cameras and lenses though the film is definitely Kodachrome 64.)
