elderly couple hiking up sea side cliff

Morning Commute. This morning as I commuted to work from my bedroom to my office on the opposite side of the house, I fondly remembered this elderly couple in the Azores. Their commute to work was a bit different and made me glad to have remembered theirs.

Surfing in Palm Beach, Florida

This week’s PoW was taken last week while Hurricane Earl brushed the US East Coast leaving in its wake little destruction but plenty of good, quality surf. I had been surfing for two solid days and by the end of the second day began to feel guilty that I hadn’t taken a single photograph. When my arms would not paddle anymore I finally grab a camera and took a few shots as the swell began to subside. I love the composition, symmetry and sense of location this image has and the touch of color provided by the two background ships.… Continue reading

birds, sea gulls by pool

While I’m aware that a few weeks ago I published a PoW photo of a bird I could not resist but do the same again this week, though in this case the bird (or rather birds) are sea gulls as oppose to the tern from the 6/22 PoW. Bahamas

(Because of recent trips to the Bahamas  and South Carolina Picture of the Week has been on hold . . .  we now resume.) Great Isaac is a tiny rock island in the Bahamas with a lighthouse and a few abandoned buildings. The closest inhabited island to Great Isaac is Bimini, which lies 22 miles to the south. Flocks of terns and sea gulls, besides small reptiles, are the only living species on the island. The surrounding waters are beautiful and full of fish, perfect for diving and spear fishing.

diving into the Bahamas

6/7/10: A quick summation of this week’s Picture of the Week. I’ll be joining these boys in the Bahamas for the rest of the week and there’s a good chance that by the time you read this I’ve already dove in and I’m hunting for lobsters! I am going to try my best to keep posting PoW over the next couple of months but I can’t promise. Summer is here and I’ve got me a new pair of ‘traveling shoes’ to wear-in. Any one tired of all the BS the world keeps throwing at us is welcome to join me.… Continue reading

boy taking pictures on sea cliff

What better way to spend the month of July than getting away from the heat, humidity and mosquitoes of South Florida and spending it way ‘Down Under’ or close enough. My son and I packed winter clothes for our summer vacation, flew countless hours and thankfully landed in the land of Lord of the Rings and lamb chop, New Zealand!
